Disability Advocate Assistant
Position Summary
Location: Wollongong, NSW
Part time: 22.5 hrs/wk
Term: Fixed term ending 30th June 2020 (with possible extension)
Renumeration: Grade 2, Level 2, SACS modern award 2010
About the organisation
Illawarra Advocacy is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that has had a presence in the Illawarra region for some 30 years. The organisation is funded by the Federal Gov’t Department of Social Services to provide free and independent advocacy to people that have a disability.
About the role
The role of the Advocate Assistant is to advocate/support clients through the Australian Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) in matters related to the NDIS and to Advocate/support clients to participate in the Disability Royal Commission.
Selection Criteria
Essential
High level verbal and written communication skills
Ability to interpret documents
Ability to interpret policies and procedures
Willingness to perform and satisfy National Police Check and Working With Children Check
Current drivers licence
Desirable
An understanding of AAT and Royal Commission processes
Experience in presenting information to groups of people
